The Advanced Manufacturing Center (CFA) in Puerto Real comes at a pivotal moment for Andalusian industry. Recently inaugurated following an investment of more than 18 million euros, the CFA was created with the aim of providing the region with the infrastructure, equipment, and services needed to accelerate R&D&I projects and the modernization of production processes for companies in the shipbuilding, aerospace, and other strategic sectors.
But what does this infrastructure mean for the Andalusian economy?
- Attracting investment and industrial projects: The launch of the CFA complements and boosts the industrial investment flows already attracted by Andalusia: in 2024, the sector attracted more than 6,000 million euros in industrial investment, according to official figures. This level of investment, combined with the CFA’s new capabilities, creates synergies for projects with higher added value.
- Boosting industrial production and competitiveness: The latest official data show significant growth in regional industrial production (for example, a cumulative increase of 7.3% in industrial activity in recent periods), indicating that the region is in a phase of industrial consolidation; having a center dedicated to additive manufacturing, advanced metrology, robotics, and digitalization helps ensure that this growth is sustainable and scalable.)
- Improving skilled employment and retaining talent: The CFA serves as a hub that facilitates university-business collaboration and applied training, generating demand for technical and R&D professionals. This effect can accelerate the creation of higher-quality jobs in the Bay of Cádiz and throughout Andalusia, supporting the structural reduction in unemployment projected by various organizations.
- Diversification and the regional value chain: By focusing on exportable technologies (additive manufacturing, robotics, digitalization), the CFA helps traditional sectors (shipbuilding, aerospace, automotive, renewable energy) integrate processes with higher added value, linking local suppliers and boosting the international competitiveness of Andalusian industry.
